Client: Tom Bacher / Weston Art Gallery
Video Concept: Painting With Light
Production: Yellowhaus Studio

A chance meeting in the elevator of our building led to a friendship with local artist Tom Bacher. An artistic pioneer, Tom invented the luminous art category and his paintings have been featured in shows from New York to Paris and currently grace the walls with a permanent installation at the Omni Netherlands hotel here in Cincinnati.

With an upcoming show at The Weston Art Gallery looming, Yellowhaus approached Tom about doing a short documentary on him and the unique aspects of his work for the gallery showing. We sat down with Tom for 5 hours recording our conversations. While having a story already in-mind this extended and deep-dive conversation completely changed the perspective of our proposed piece. While still focused on his art and passion – it explores notions of purpose and intent which are universal in nature.

This documentary was ultimately shown next to his mesmerizing and experiential paintings at his solo-show with the Weston Gallery.

COOL FACT: When we approached Tom he was completely open to us filming a documentary – however he was adamant to keep his image anonymous. It was challenging to create visuals which still maintained a very personal and human story while not being able to actually see that persons face or eyes.
