Cincinnati Reds
Born to Baseball 150th Anniversary Campaign

Client: Cincinnati Reds
Video Concept: Born To Baseball
Production: Yellowhaus Studio

The 2019 season was a special one for the Cincinnati Reds. The team was celebrating its 150th year making it the oldest professional sports franchise in the country.

The Reds reached out to Yellowhaus looking for a video production partner that would be up to the task and could collaborate on the Born to Baseball concept. Through a stylized interview approach, we sat down with legends Johnny Bench and Barry Larkin as well as future Hall of Famer Joey Votto to illicit a wide-ranging emotion of what it’s like playing in Cincinnati and what 150 years means to fans. This series of TV spots was marketing catalyst for the 2019 season and was used throughout the year to remind fans of the history, nostalgia, and love of the game.

COOL FACT: It’s always interesting working with professional athletes… when we were scheduling the Joey Votto shoot at spring training in Arizona, we were told that he would not want a hair/make-up stylist. As it would happen, Joey shows up on shoot day, his first day at spring training, with a shave and a haircut that he did… himself. Yep! Needless to say, the patches of hair on his face and the uneven hairline told us that Joey should not quit his day job! Fortunately some nifty post-production beauty-work helped to hide his self-inflicted blemishes.
